Six archistars received the TrE Number One Award 2010 prize during the special event organized at San Clemente Palace Hotel in Venice, on occasion of TrE – Tourism Real Estate Expo 2010.
Six “number one” architectural talents. Six “master pencils”. Six enlightened minds who cast their light on tomorrow’s hotels.
They are the winners of the first TrE Number One Award. Winners do not really need special introductions: Mario Bellini won for “efficacy and rigour” in designing the T Hotel in Verona, a business-oriented resort.
Frank Gehry was awarded for his Hotel Marques de Riscal in Elciego, Spain, already acknowledged as “a new Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao”, an architectural sculpture that embraces its guests in a marvelous world, where architecture becomes the emblem of contemporary times.
Alessandro Mendini won for his Byblos Art Hotel Villa Amistà at Corrubio di Negarine, Verona, where he created a fairy world, made of art, design and colour.
Karim Rashid, with the Semiramis Hotel, brings his guests in a “Global Love” world, where architecture and design live in harmony.
Matteo Thun, at the Edel Weiss Residence at Katschberg, Austria, makes guests live the “fin de siècle” atmosphere in a modern fashion.
Tom Wright, the man behind Dubai’s Arab Sail hotel, had the special honour of the TrE Number One Lifetime Achievement Award, for devising the very concept of the icon-building, a groundbreaking feat in the architectural world.

The prize aimed at awarding tourism projects and designs originating from enlightened and culturally aware contractors: where visions become tangible and momentous accomplishments in our sector. The first edition of TrE – Tourism Real Estate intended to celebrate this successful première by awarding architects who, with their art, aim at redefining the notion of “hospitality”.
