VENEZIA

“È una ghirlanda di fiori olezzanti; è una collana di pietre preziose. È una cosa lasciva e imponente. È una fata col sole per nimbo, che attrae”

The history that has crossed   it’s canals, captivate the imagination of millions of visitors each year who make it their holiday destination, consecrating excellence as the undisputed world tourism.

HISTORY
The Arsenal of Venice is an extraordinary work of industrial architecture. A huge factory of ships and artillery dating back to 1104 which now extends over 46 hectares in the heart of the lagoon city.

Sung by Dante Alighieri in the "Divina Commedia" (Inferno, canto XXI) the Arsenal is linked to the most flourishing period of the Serenissima. Thanks to the galleys built in what to all intents and purposes can be considered the first industry in history, the fleet of the Holy League - led by the Republic of Venice - in fact, defeated the Ottoman Empire at the Battle of Lepanto (1571).

Over the centuries, the Arsenal experienced three major phases of development (up to cover, in 1570, an area of nearly 24 hectares) before his work was almost entirely suspended as from the fall of Venice because the invasion Napoleon (1797).

A fourth phase of development dates back to the period 1896-1909: This arch in time in fact, is when the Arsenal reaches its final size.
It is dated 2003, and finally the establishment of Arsenale di Venezia SpA, a company owned by the State Property (which owns 51%) and the Municipality of Venice (49%) born to manage the restoration and enhancement of this place full of charm and history.
